Justyn Knight wins 9th individual ACC title, Philo Germano and Paige Stoner medal

Justyn Knight, pictured after winning the cross country national title, has now won 14 ACC titles, including nine as an individual, after his 5000-meter race win on Friday.

After a slow start for Syracuse in the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, the Orange turned it around with multiple medal performances on Friday. Justyn Knight won gold in the men’s 5000-meter run with a time of 13:50.79, earning him his 14th ACC Championship — his ninth individual title. Philo Germano finished right behind Knight to win silver. Syracuse had three other runners place in the top ten with Iliass Aouani in fifth, Aidan Tooker in seventh and Kevin James in 10th.
Paige Stoner also medaled for the Orange, taking home the bronze with a 16:37.37 time in the women’s 5000-meter run. Shannon Malone had a strong performance as well, placing seventh.
Syracuse had many runners qualify in preliminary races to compete in finals that will take place on Saturday.
Tia Thevenin qualified for the 60-meter hurdles finals with the fifth-best time of 8.27 seconds. On the men’s side of the 60-meter hurdles, Angelo Goss qualified with the best time of 7.77 seconds while Matt Moore, Richard Floyd and David Gilstrap also advanced to the finals. In the women’s 400-meter dash, Kadejhia Sellers qualified for the finals with a time of 53.93 seconds.
The top performances in other preliminaries on the men’s side included Kashif Miller’s 10th place finish in the 200-meter dash, Simon Smith’s 12th place finish in the mile and Miller’s 16th place finish in the 60-meter dash. On the women’s side the top Orange preliminary performances were Dasia Pressley’s 10th place finish in the 200-meter dash, Imani Clark’s 16th place finish in the 60-meter dash, Sydney Leiher’s 22nd place finish in the mile and Aviana Goode’s sixth place finish in the high jump and 15th place finish in the long jump.
With 7 of 17 events scored on the women’s side, Syracuse sits in eighth with 10.5 points, far behind first-place Louisville, which has 58. On the men’s side, with 6 of 17 events scored, Syracuse sits in fourth place with 24 points, trying to keep up with Florida State, which is in first with 43.
The Orange will look to close the gap tomorrow on the women’s side with Sellers in the 400-meter finals and Thevenin in the 60-meter hurdles finals. The Syracuse men will look to gain ground with big performances out of Goss, Moore, Floyd and Gilstrap in tomorrow’s 60-meter hurdles finals.
