Syracuse won its second game against a top-5 opponent when it beat UConn. SU beat then-No. 2 Duke earlier this season.

Despite a win at No. 3 Connecticut over the weekend, Syracuse (9-5, 1-3 Atlantic Coast) remained at No. 15 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches poll.

Though UConn — which stayed at No. 3 in the rankings — dominated that contest statistically, SU’s backline held strong and allowed the Orange to win after penalty strokes. The 1-0 victory was Syracuse’s second upset against a top-five opponent in 2019.

Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Sinck, who made a career-high 11 saves in the win over the Huskies, earned the ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week award. Sinck leads the conference in saves per game (4.08).

Overall, the Orange split the weekend, with a loss coming to No. 13 Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA. In that match, SU struggled to contain BC freshman Margo Carlin, who scored both of the Eagles’ goals. Carlin sits second in the ACC with 17 goals.

North Carolina, who beat Syracuse 3-1 on Oct. 12, unanimously remained atop the coaches poll. All seven ACC teams are ranked in the top-25, including No. 20 Wake Forest, who play the Orange Friday at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
