Former Syracuse men’s soccer midfielder Nate Edwards signed a deal with Toronto FC of Major League Soccer, the club announced Tuesday. Edwards, a member of SU’s 2023 squad, agreed to a contract that will run through 2025 with options in 2026 and 2027.

On Feb. 29, 2024, Edwards signed with Toronto FC II, the MLS NEXT affiliate of Toronto FC. He tallied one goal and two assists across 23 games with the club.

During the season, he signed three short-term agreements with TFC and played in the Canadian Championship on May 21. The Brampton, Ontario, native joins Toronto FC with six games left on the club’s 2024 schedule.

“(Edwards) has been a top performer with TFC II this season, and we look forward to his continued growth within our environment,” Toronto FC General Manager Jason Hernandez said in a press release.

Edwards started his collegiate career at Purdue Fort Wayne. In three seasons with the Mastodons, he started in 39 matches and logged two goals and one assist.

After transferring to Syracuse in 2023, he became a full-time starter right away. In his lone season with the Orange, Edwards registered one goal and four assists in 21 matches. Edwards played both left and right wing back, helping SU record seven clean sheets on the way to an NCAA Tournament berth.
