Syracuse field hockey (8-3, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) rose to No. 14 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Week 5 Poll, which was released Tuesday. The Orange earned two ranked wins this past week, defeating then-No. 16 Louisville 2-1 Friday and then-No. 14 Princeton 2-1 Sunday.

The victories marked SU’s second and third ranked wins of the season, after its 2-1 win over then-No. 16 Penn State on Sept. 1. The Orange gained 77 points in the Week 5 Poll, which was their highest increase of the season. Syracuse’s 385 points are its highest since Week 1 when it received 389 points in the poll.

On Friday against Louisville, the Orange fell behind early, as Cardinals forward Chloe Plumb opened the scoring less than three minutes into the match. Syracuse didn’t stay down for long, however, as Bo van Kempen scored on a penalty corner to close the first quarter. With five minutes left in the third quarter, van Kempen scored on another penalty corner, sealing Syracuse’s second conference win.

Against Princeton Sunday, Syracuse got off to an early lead. Bo Madden found Willemijn Boogert in the third minute, who tipped the pass through Tigers goalkeeper Robyn Thompson for her third goal of the season. After Princeton’s Beth Yeager equalized in the third quarter, van Kempen secured the victory for Syracuse, scoring on a penalty corner with five minutes remaining.
