4-star Class of 2016 RB Robert Washington reportedly decommits from Syracuse
Class of 2016 running back Robert Washington has decommitted from Syracuse, according to multiple reports. Scout.com first reported the news.
Washington verballed to Syracuse on April 25. The East Gaston (North Carolina) High School product is ranked by 247Sports.com’s composite rankings as the 12th running back in the 2016 class. He’s listed at 5 feet 10 inches and 215 pounds.
On April 25, a Bleacher Report video was released in which Washington verbally committed to Florida. About 15 minutes later, he announced his pledge to Syracuse in person to a group of reporters.
In 2012, Washington verballed to Mississippi State before decommitting after a coaching change.
Washington was told that he would be the only running back the Orange takes in its 2016 class. Now, that spot appears to have opened back up. SU’s 2016 class sits at 14 commits, including hybrids Moe Neal and Darius Stubbs.
On Sunday morning, Washington tweeted from a new account and said that his father, Robert Washington Sr., hacked his old account.

Prior to his announcement in April, Washington released his top six schools, which included Alabama, Michigan, Florida, North Carolina and Texas Christian along with SU. He has offers from 44 schools, according to 247Sports.
The only four-star running backs, according to Scout, that Syracuse has signed in the past 10 years are former Indianapolis Colt Delone Carter (Class of 2006), Doug Hogue (Class of 2007) and Averin Collier (Class of 2008). Junior defensive end Ron Thompson is the only four-star recruit on the Orange’s current roster.
In his junior year at SouthLake Christian (North Carolina) Academy, Washington ran for 2,233 yards and 27 touchdowns on 239 carries, according to MaxPreps.com. As a sophomore, he ran for 2,512 yards and 28 touchdowns on 219 carries, per MaxPreps.
