Syracuse senior back Roos Weers was named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the ACC announced Tuesday morning.

Weers contributed two goals offensively for the Orange (8-4, 1-3 ACC) in two wins against Boston College and California last weekend. She led the defense in fending off five of six penalty corners against BC before scoring the winning goal in overtime.

Weers is the Orange’s most experienced defender, and helped settle down its defense after Syracuse conceded two goals in five minutes, losing its two-goal lead on Sunday. Weers also assisted on Chiara Gutsche’s second goal against Cal to give the Orange the lead. SU went on to win 4-2. 

This is the sixth time in Weers’ SU career that she was recognized by the conference for a weekly honor.
