Knapp not on travel roster for Syracuse’s season opener against Penn State
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Kyle Knapp, an offensive lineman who missed at least two weeks of training camp with a head injury, is one of 31 players who are not part of Syracuse’s travel roster for its season opener against Penn State in East Rutherford, N.J., on Saturday. Head coach Scott Shafer said earlier in the week that Knapp, who was listed as the second-team left tackle on Monday’s depth chart, had returned to practice. But he will not be on the field when the Orange opens its season at MetLife Stadium in New York’s College Classic at 3:30 p.m.
A handful of freshman receiving options — wide receivers Corey Winfield and Sean Avant and tight ends Tyler Provo and P.J. Batten — were also left off the travel roster, as well as linebacker Oliver Vigille, defensive back Chauncey Scissum, running back Steve Rene, tackle Jon Burton and defensive end Josh Manley.
Defensive end Tyler Marona, who Shafer said was unlikely to play on Saturday, is listed on the Orange’s travel roster for Saturday’s game.
